Do CurseForge and Modrinth mostly share the same mods?
You find a mod on Modrinth, then look for the same page on CurseForge. I checked a community map that pairs roughly ten thousand projects on both stores. Almost all of those pairs are mods.
Linked pairs
10,541
Same project linked by Modrinth ID and CurseForge ID.
How many are mods?
94%
9,933 of 10,541 pairs are labeled “mods.”
About 10,500 projects are linked on both stores
You find a mod (extra code that changes Java Minecraft) on Modrinth. A friend sends you the CurseForge page instead. You want to know if those are the same project, or two things that happen to share a name.
I wanted to know if those were the same project, so I checked a public map that pairs a Modrinth ID with a CurseForge ID. That is a real link, not a fuzzy title match. The map I saved has 10,541 of those pairs.
Almost all of those pairs are mods
About 9,933 of those pairs are labeled mods. That is about 94% of the map. Resource packs (new skins for blocks and items) make up most of the rest, at 559 pairs. Shader packs (pretty lighting) are only 49 of the linked pairs. That is less than half a percent of the map.
That mix matches what I already know from Modrinth’s whole catalog: shaders are rare, resource packs are common, mods dominate. The dual-store map is even more mod-heavy than Modrinth alone. Playable mods are the main thing people bother to list twice.
What this map is not
It is not every project on either store. It is not sales. It is not proof both pages stay in sync on every version. It only counts projects someone bothered to link by ID, so the real dual-store total could be higher.

How I calculated it
Rows = 10,541. Domain tallies via CSV column domain. Share mods = 9933/10541 ≈ 94.2%.
